How to Use This Template
This template covers a general risk assessment for mobile trading operations at events. It identifies common hazards (slips and trips, burns and scalds, manual handling injuries, gas leaks, electrical faults, vehicle movement, adverse weather, crowd proximity), assesses likelihood and severity for each, and lists the specific control measures you have in place.
Walk through your entire operation from arrival to departure and note every hazard. For each one, score the likelihood (1-5) and severity (1-5), multiply for a risk rating, then describe your control measures — "non-slip mats on serving area floor" and "fire blanket within 1 metre of cooking equipment" are specific. "Be careful" is not a control measure. Review and update whenever your setup changes.
Risk assessments are a legal requirement for any business with employees under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and most event organisers require them from all traders regardless. Keep a signed, dated copy in your van and bring it to every event — some organisers check on arrival and won't let you trade without one.
