How to Use This Template
This checklist covers all gas safety requirements for a mobile catering unit using LPG. It includes daily checks (connections, hoses, regulators, flame failure devices, ventilation, CO detector battery), periodic checks (hose replacement dates — every 12 months or per manufacturer's guidance, regulator condition, gas bottle storage compliance), and annual Gas Safe engineer inspection tracking. There's space to record your Gas Safe engineer's registration number, inspection date, and next due date.
Complete the daily checks before every trading session — a two-minute routine that could save lives. Brush soapy water on connections to check for leaks (bubbles mean a leak). Ensure ventilation openings are clear. Test flame failure devices by blowing out each burner and confirming the gas cuts off. The annual section tracks your Gas Safe inspection — every commercial gas appliance must be checked by a Gas Safe registered engineer at least annually.
Gas safety is non-negotiable. A gas leak or carbon monoxide incident can be fatal, and trading without a valid Gas Safe certificate is a criminal offence under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. Most event organisers and local authorities will ask to see your certificate before you're allowed on site. Keep it in your vehicle at all times.
