How to Use This Template
This assessment covers the manual handling risks in your operation — lifting gas bottles, loading equipment into vans, moving tables and marquee components, carrying stock, and any task involving lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying heavy items. For each task, it identifies the load weight, handling difficulty, frequency, who performs it, and the safe working method or mechanical aid to be used.
List every lifting task your team performs, from loading the van to positioning a 19kg gas bottle. Note the weight of each item, how far it needs to be moved, and what technique or equipment should be used. Gas bottles are the most common source of back injuries for event vendors — document the safe procedure (trolley, correct lifting posture, two-person lift for full 47kg bottles). Include equipment like sack trucks, ramps, and trolleys you provide.
