How to Use This Template
This log tracks Portable Appliance Testing for all your electrical equipment. It includes columns for appliance name, serial number or asset tag, PAT test date, result (pass/fail), tester name and qualification, next test due date, and any notes on repairs or issues found. There's a summary showing which items are due for testing and which have failed previously.
List every portable electrical appliance you use commercially — kettles, coffee machines, food processors, heat lamps, till systems, card readers, extension leads, and phone chargers. Record each PAT test result and set reminders for the next test. The frequency depends on the environment: equipment used at outdoor events in wet conditions should be tested more frequently (every 6-12 months) than office-based items.
While PAT testing isn't a specific legal requirement in itself, the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require all electrical equipment to be maintained in a safe condition — and PAT testing is the accepted way to demonstrate compliance. Most event organisers and venues now require PAT certificates for all electrical equipment brought on site. A current PAT testing log and sticker labels on your equipment show you take electrical safety seriously.
