How to Use This Template
This template helps you research and document what other vendors in your area are offering. It includes sections for each competitor covering their services, pricing (where visible), social media presence and follower counts, Google rating and review count, events they attend, their unique selling points, and areas where they're weaker than you. There's a summary section for identifying gaps in the market and opportunities.
Fill in one section per competitor. Check their website, Instagram, Facebook, Google Business listing, and any event listings they appear on. Note their pricing if it's public, and estimate it from their positioning if it's not. Look at what customers praise and complain about in their reviews — that tells you more than their marketing does.
Run this exercise every six months. Knowing your competition isn't about copying them — it's about differentiating. If every pizza vendor in your area does Neapolitan, there's an opening for Detroit-style. If nobody offers vegan options, that's a gap. If your nearest competitor has 200 Google reviews and you have 12, you know where to focus your energy.
