How to Use This Template
This form records your detailed takings at the end of each trading day, broken down by payment method. It includes cash breakdown by denomination, card terminal totals (with separate lines if you use multiple providers), voucher or token takings if the market uses them, online pre-orders collected, total gross takings, starting and closing float, and a reconciliation section. There's also space for quick notes on weather, footfall, and what sold well or poorly.
Complete this before you leave the site, not the next morning when the numbers blur. Count cash carefully and note your card terminal total — if the two don't reconcile with your float, investigate immediately. The notes section is surprisingly valuable over time: "Rainy, low footfall, sold out of soup by 1pm" helps you plan stock for similar conditions next time.
Accurate daily takings records are essential for your self-assessment tax return, for tracking profitability by event, and for making data-driven decisions about which markets to continue. If you're VAT-registered, you need detailed daily sales records. Even below the threshold, HMRC expects accurate income records and can request them at any time.
