How to Use This Template

This checklist covers the proper conditioning and care procedures for fresh flowers from delivery to finished arrangement. It includes unpacking and inspection (check stems, heads, and foliage for damage), initial conditioning steps (remove lower foliage, cut stems at 45 degrees, hydration solution), species-specific requirements (roses — remove guard petals and thorn; hydrangeas — boiling water treatment; gerberas — shallow water only), conditioning times by variety, cold storage temperatures (ideally 2-4C for most cut flowers), and a timeline working backwards from the event date.

Fill in the conditioning schedule for each event based on what you've ordered. Most flowers need 4-6 hours of conditioning before arranging, but some varieties need longer — peonies may need 24-48 hours to open fully, and tulips continue to grow in the vase. Plan your schedule so nothing is conditioned too early (wilting) or too late (not fully hydrated).

Proper conditioning is the difference between flowers that look stunning for three days and flowers that droop during the speeches. It's the invisible craft that clients never see but absolutely notice the results of. This checklist ensures consistency, especially when training assistants or handling large events with multiple flower varieties arriving at different times.
